Teenager killed in Smethwick stabbing named
18-year-old Zeshan Afzal was found fatally injured outside a mosque last night
A teenager who died following a stabbing outside a mosque in Smethwick has been named as Zeshan Afzal.
The 18-year-old was found just before 9pm last night (Friday 20th February 2026) on Oldbury Road, but was sadly pronounced dead a short while later.
Two other men involved suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
No arrests have been made so far.
West Midlands Police are conducting extensive enquiries to establish the circumstances and are asking for anyone who might have information.
Those with mobile phone or dashcam footage are encouraged to submit it via the Public Portal.
Detectives say that although the incident occurred outside a mosque, there is currently no indication it was racially or religiously motivated.
Patrols have been stepped up in the area as a reassurance to the public.
