The Metropolitan Police have arrested more than 20 individuals in connection to antisemitic hate crimes across London in a specialised operation aimed at bolstering the city’s security and addressing threats to community safety.

The action follows a strategic increase in resources dedicated to investigating reports of such hate crimes, ensuring cases are prioritised and rapidly addressed.

Commander Andy Featherstone, leading the operation, emphasised, “Hate crime, of any kind, has no place in our communities and we take all reports incredibly seriously. We have significantly improved how we deal with these offences and solving twice as many hate crimes compared to last year.”

A number of charges have been made

The operation has led to charges against several individuals, including:

Jean Charles Tavius, 26, from Hackney, who faces 11 counts of racially or religiously aggravated threatening behaviour, criminal damage, and racially or religiously aggravated criminal damage.

An investigation began after police responded to reports of Tavius shouting antisemitic abuse and throwing a rock at a car window.

He was arrested on 24th March and is due at Stratford Magistrates' Court on 6th May.

Munir Saleh, 29, from Tottenham, is charged with six counts of racially or religiously aggravated threatening behaviour, assault by beating, and common assault after allegedly shouting antisemitic abuse and spitting at individuals.

Saleh was arrested on 5th April and is scheduled to appear at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on 7th May.

Increased effectiveness targeting abuse

According to figures released by the Metropolitan Police, a marked increase in hate crime resolutions has been achieved—1,525 cases resolved from October 2025 to February 2026 compared to 764 in the previous year.

Commander Featherstone hopes this progress reassures community members that their reports will be handled with the utmost seriousness necessary.

The operation continues to work closely with community leaders, especially following last month’s arson attack in Golders Green, ensuring timely responses to any emerging concerns.
