'My Son Was Stabbed' is an exclusive documentary created for Hits Radio 90s
Dad talks about the night his son was stabbed
The dad, who we're calling Chris, opens up about the night it happened, and the harrowing moments he thought his son was going to die.
Despite his injuries the boy was able to cycle back to the family home.
Chris told the documentary: "I went into the kitchen and my son was sitting on a chair with two stab wounds and blood coming out of them.
"I sat in front of him and he said to me 'everything is going dark, am I going to die?'"
The 16 year old was rushed to Aintree Hospital, where surgeons were eventually able to repair the damage that sat millimetres from his heart.
Exclusive documentary about the realities of knife crime
Chris reveals the heart-stopping moment he learned his son was going to pull through: "It was like in the movies, when the surgeon removes his facemask as he walks through the door and says 'he's not out of the woods yet, but....
"You just collapse with relief, because you don't know if you're going to get a different message.
"He's alive - and when you go through two and a half hours of not knowing if your child is going to still be alive that stays with you."
As part of the 'My Son Was Stabbed' project, we were able to reunite Chris with the first responders and surgeon who helped save his son's life that night.
We're covering Chris' face to protect his son's identity.
