Essex Police have arrested a man from Derbyshire after a boy died from injuries he suffered in a crash in Ongar.

Police were called to the scene in Epping Road at around 4.20pm on Friday 10th July 2026, where a 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injuries by dangerous driving.

He has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the child died in hospital, Essex Police said.

The man has been bailed until mid-September while officers continue their investigation.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or have dashcam, CCTV or other footage of it, to contact them quoting incident 1045 of July 10.
