Millie Calloway is back - so that means trouble isn't far behind - and something ominous is stirring behind those polished doors again. Lionsgate has quietly lined up a fresh chapter in its twisty thriller saga, once more pairing its breakout lead with the team who turned a straightforward housekeeping gig into a full-on psychological car crash.

Story specifics are firmly under wraps for now, but you can bank on more luxe settings, messy power games and trust-no-one turns when the sequel finally surfaces.

Sharing a cryptic photo of a door ajar with only light coming from the room, the film's official socials shared the release date with the text across the image.

Sharing their excitement after the announcement, one eager fan wrote: 'was so excited until I saw 2027 😭', while another said: 'that’s way too longg cmon🥲'. (sic)

A third chimed: 'Can it be 2026??? ❤️❤️❤️' and a fourth added: 'YOU OWN THE CHRISTMAS SEASON! YOU ALREADY HAVE MY TICKETS'. (sic)

What is The Housemaid about?

The Housemaid follows Millie, a young woman trying to outrun her past who takes a live-in job working for wealthy couple Nina and Andrew Winchester. At first, the mansion, money and walk-in wardrobe look like a dream, but Millie slowly realises this household runs on lies, control and very real physical danger.

The film starred Sydney Sweeney as Millie, Amanda Seyfried as tightly wound socialite Nina and Brandon Sklenar as her charismatic husband Andrew. It became a word-of-mouth hit after its December 2025 theatrical release, setting up a ready-made audience for any sequel.

What is The Housemaid's Secret about?

The Housemaid’s Secret is based on the second novel in Freida McFadden’s hit thriller series and once again finds Millie stumbling into a too-good-to-be-true domestic setup. Hired to help a seemingly picture-perfect couple, she’s told never to open the door to the guest room upstairs, where the wife claims to be hiding from an abusive husband.

As the lies pile up, Millie starts investigating what’s really going on in the locked room, uncovering a new maze of manipulation, money and possible murder. The sequel promises to lean into the first film’s mix of twisty plotting, class tension and 'who’s actually the victim here?' mind games.

Who is in the sequel?

Kirsten Dunst has officially joined the cast of The Housemaid's Secret, where she will star alongside Sydney Sweeney who returns as Millie. Freida McFadden and Sydney are also back as executive producers, alongside returning producers Paul Feig, Todd Lieberman and Laura Fischer.

Full casting is still being kept under wraps, but the project is set up at Lionsgate with Feig again in the director’s chair and Rebecca Sonnenshine back on script duties.

When is it out?

Lionsgate has set The Housemaid’s Secret for 17th December 2027, almost exactly two years after the first film hit cinemas.
