A 10-year-old boy is in critical condition after a serious crash involving three vehicles on the A701 in the Scottish Borders, Police Scotland has said.

He is one of five people taken to hospital after the crash between Broughton and Blyth Bridge at around 12.15pm on Friday.

The force said a white Seat Leon, a black Audi Q5 and a red Jaguar F Pace were involved.

The boy was a passenger in the Seat Leon and was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical condition.

The male drivers of the Seat Leon and the Jaguar F Pace were also taken to hospital, and police said both have serious injuries.

A teenage boy who was a passenger in the Seat Leon and a woman who was a passenger in the Audi Q5 were also taken to hospital for treatment.

The A-road was closed so inquiries could be carried out and re-opened at around 7.10pm on Friday.

Sergeant Grant Hastie said: "I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw the vehicles prior, and has yet to speak to officers to come forward with any information that could assist with our investigation.

"I'd also ask that those driving in the area at the time with dash-cam footage review this to see if it has captured anything of significance."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1186 of 16th October 2026.
