Three people are being treated in hospital after being rescued from the water near Clacton pier.
Emergency services were called out shortly after 4.30pm on Saturday (25 July) following reports that several people had got into difficulty in the water.
Three people were safely brought to shore.
Essex Police said on Sunday ( 26 July) that two of the three people, a man aged in his 20s and a teenage girl, were recovering and remain in hospital.
The third person involved, a man aged in his 50s, is in a critical but stable condition.
Chief Inspector Stuart Austin, Clacton district commander, said:
“I’m acutely aware there will a sense of shock and worry given recent incidents elsewhere in north Essex in the last week.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with those affected by the incident on the seafront yesterday. I’m also aware the area was busy and the incident would have been seen by a lot of people.
“Emergency services were quickly on the scene and all services worked incredibly professionally to clear the area to allow for medical professionals to help the three people involved.
“Today, our focus is on supporting the family of the people involved and I would urge people to refrain from commenting on the incident on social media.”
