A man has been taken to hospital after being struck by a police vehicle as it responded to an emergency in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police says the vehicle was on 'blue lights' at the time of the collision in Selly Oak last night.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Whilst responding to an incident on blue lights, a police vehicle was involved in a collision where a pedestrian was struck in Katie Road, Selly Oak, just before 8pm yesterday (Friday).

"The man, in his 30s, was taken to hospital with injuries.

"Our Professional Standards Department has been informed as is normal procedure in such circumstances."
