Second boy charged in connection with Battersea murder investigation

A second boy has been charged with the murder of 17-year-old Jamal Coombes in Battersea.

The 15-year-old from Wandsworth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with murder and possession of a bladed article on Monday, 22 June. He will appear at Ealing Magistrates’ Court later this morning.

Couldn't be saved

Police were called at around 04:20hrs on Saturday, 20 June to reports of a stabbing on Glycena Road, Battersea.

Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance and found Jamal with serious injuries.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Jamal’s family continue to be supported by specialist officers.

Several arrests

A total of four youths have been arrested in connection with Jamal’s death.

A 14-year-old boy from Wandsworth was arrested on Sunday, 21 June. He appeared at Highbury Corner Youth Court yesterday, Monday, 22 June charged with murder and possession of a bladed article and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 25 June.

A boy and girl, both aged 15 and arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday, 20 June, have been released on bail while enquiries continue.
