Redditch man dies in drowning incident at Ensors Pool

A man from Redditch has died after drowning in Nuneaton.

Emergency services were called to Ensors Pool yesterday lunchtime (17/08).

He's been named as 27-year-old Wojciech Berlan.

In a statement, Warwickshire Police said: "We are sad to report that 27-year-old Wojciech Berlan from Redditch has died after drowning at Ensor’s Pool in Nuneaton.

"His next of kin have now been informed.

"Emergency services responded to a report at 12:24pm on 17 August that a man had disappeared beneath the water while swimming and not resurfaced for over five minutes.

"After being recovered from the water, Wojciech was confirmed deceased at 1:30pm.

"Our thoughts are with Wojciech’s family at this time.

"Police are continuing to investigate on behalf of the coroner.

"Anyone who was present when the incident took place should contact us online or on 101 citing Incident 174 of 17 August."

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called by Warwickshire Police at 12.19pm to reports of a man who was missing in the water.

Two paramedic officers, HART paramedics, an ambulance and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance attended.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “HART paramedics worked closely with Warwickshire Fire and Rescue colleagues to search the water whilst the remaining team worked on shore to assist with the search.

“After recovering the man from the water, sadly nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased on scene.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man at this truly distressing time.”
