Dyfed-Powys Police has renewed its appeal for information to identify a man found dead in a reservoir in Powys two years ago.

The discovery was made on October 17, 2024, near Claerwen Reservoir by a dog walker.

Despite extensive investigations led by Powys CID, the man's identity remains unknown.

Detective Inspector Anthea Ponting, who has led the investigation, described the case as "highly unusual" due to the lack of progress in identifying the individual despite two years of enquiries.

The man was reported to have worn a black extra-large Zone 3 Agile wetsuit and had been in the water for up to 12 weeks.

Initial investigations gave a general idea of his age, height, and build: between 30 and 60 years old, around six feet tall, weighing between 202 lbs and 220 lbs, and of white European descent.

Facial depiction work revealed protruding teeth, a left-sided cross bite, a rounded chin, a square jawline, and a downturned nose.

DI Ponting emphasised the lack of distinguishable marks and other belongings in the area, making identification challenging.

She said, "Someone must know who this man is. Maybe you recognise him from the digital image, or maybe you visited Claerwen Reservoir and saw something that stands out in your mind – whatever it is, it might help to progress our enquiries."

DI Ponting says her ultimate aim is to return the man to his family or loved ones, allowing for a proper resting place.

Anyone with information, especially visitors to Claerwen Reservoir between July and October 2024, is urged to contact Dyfed-Powys Police via their online portal, email, or phone.

Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers.
