A complaint is being reviewed by Merseyside Police after a video appeared on social media showing something that happened in Speke.

The force said it is aware of the video, which relates to Friday 30th October.

The footage appears to show an officer using handcuffs to strike a male detainee while several other officers stand nearby.

The wider circumstances, including what led up to the footage, have not been made public. The detainee's age has not been confirmed.

Police said officers were called to Alder Wood Avenue after multiple reports of anti-social behaviour in the area.

The force said it received a complaint about what happened on Saturday 31st October.

Merseyside Police said the complaint is being reviewed by its Professional Standards Department.

"As a complaint has been received, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time," Merseyside Police said.

The force said it is looking to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

Police have urged people not to speculate and to avoid sharing rumours or misinformation in the meantime.
