Seven people arrested on suspicion of murder of newborn baby in Sheffield

South Yorkshire Police have started a murder investigation following the death of a newborn baby in Sheffield.

Officers received reports of safety concerns for a baby at 5.58am this morning (Sunday 30th August 2026).

They searched a property on Holywell Heights, located in the Wincobank area, and found the newborn, who was sadly pronounced dead despite efforts from both police and paramedics.

Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of murder, all of whom remain in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight is leading the investigation:

"We are aware news of this will be deeply concerning and I want to reassure our local communities that we have a dedicated team of detectives and officers hard at work to ensure justice is secured for the baby girl at the heart of this investigation."

"Our investigation is in its early stages and we would like to remind people to avoid speculating about this incident."
