A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a woman in Ashford in Surrey.

Surrey Police say they were called out to an address on Woodthorpe Road on Thursday afternoon (16 January) following a report of a concern for safety.

A woman in her 20s and a two-year-old girl were found at the address with very serious injuries.

Despite the effort of paramedics the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Surrey Police believe the victims and the suspect were known to each other and there is not believed to be any wider risk to the community.

Senior Investigating Officer DCI Kimball Edey said,

“This investigation is in its early stages and a team of specialist officers are working around the clock to gather as much information as possible.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims at this unbelievably difficult time.”
