Three pupils have suffered serious injuries at a boarding school after reportedly coming into contact with power cables.

Emergency services were called to Millfield on Saturday evening.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called by the ambulance service at 7.50pm on Saturday 3 May to support them and the fire service in responding to an incident at Millfield School, near Street.

“Three people were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Their next of kin have been informed.

“Following the incident, a referral was made to the Health and Safety Executive who will lead in any investigation.”

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT), told us: “We were called at 19:37hrs on Saturday 03 May to an incident at Millfield School in Somerset.

"We sent three double-crewed land ambulances, an air ambulance, a hazardous area response team as well as a significant number of additional resources to the scene.

"We conveyed three patients by land to hospital.”

We have contacted the school for a statement, and reports tell us that a number of other pupils have been offered counselling.
