Man charged with murder of 19-year-old Preston student

A man has been charged with the murder of 19-year-old Carla Georgescu, a second-year student found dead in her accommodation.

Police were called at 1.15pm on 5th February to student accommodation on Victoria Street, Preston, following a report of a sudden death.

Officers discovered Carla’s body inside the address.

The incident prompted an investigation by the Force Major Investigation Team.

Nathan Owens, a 34-year-old from Hopps Street, Hartlepool, was arrested on 6th February on suspicion of murder.

Following consultations with the Crown Prosecution Service, Owens was subsequently charged with Carla’s murder.

He has been remanded in custody.

Owens is expected to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court this morning.
