Fresh appeal as investigation continues into Wakefield car theft that had toddler inside
Anyone who saw a grey Volvo XC90 travelling towards Woodlesford Lock is urged to contact police
West Yorkshire Police have launched a fresh appeal for information after a car with a 2-year-old child inside was stolen in Wakefield, and was later found in Leeds.
Police say it happened just before 8:30pm on Wednesday (5 August) in Long Thorpe Lane.
About 15 minutes later Police found the car near the Woodlesford Lock and the child was returned safely to their family.
Anyone who saw the incident or has footage of the grey Volvo XC90 travelling towards Woodlesford Lock, where it was later found, is being urged to contact police.
Police believe the Volvo, which had a ‘58’ plate, was travelling at high speed through Carlton, Rothwell and Woodlesford via Holmsley Lane. It was also seen travelling with a blue Citroen Berlingo.
Investigations are ongoing.
A Police statement said:
"Officers received reports of a stolen car at around 8.30pm last night (5 August).
"The car was stolen from Long Thorpe Lane, Wakefield, and a child was in the car.
"Within approximately fifteen minutes of the report the police recovered the car near Woodlesford Lock, Leeds, and the child was returned to their family safely. Enquiries are currently ongoing."
