Body found during 'gale force' winds on Dartmoor

It's been confirmed by the Dartmoor Search and Rescue team that a body has been found overnight.

The team say they were called out on the longest night of the year during what was a wet and windy night, and one which saw gale force winds.

Describing the incident, Dartmoor Search and Rescue said: "We were called by Devon & Cornwall Police yesterday afternoon at the onset of the longest night of the year, which proved to be another wet one with winds gusting gale force, to recover the body of a person found sadly deceased.

"14 team members and both Land Rovers deployed to near Burrator reservoir, and the person was stretchered to the road and transferred into the care of the undertakers.

"Our thoughts are with the person's friends and family at this time."
