A 12-year-old boy has been charged after a woman was found with serious injuries at an address in Birmingham.

The woman, in her 60s, was discovered on Kellett Road just before 6:15pm last Wednesday (18 March). She remains in a serious condition in hospital.

The boy was arrested and charged with wounding and sexual assault.

He's also charged with a separate theft offence last Wednesday and intentional strangulation after a woman was confronted in the street last month.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been remanded in custody and will appear at Birmingham Youth Court today (24 March).

West Midlands Police said: "Our enquiries remain ongoing, but we understand how concerning this will be within the community. Our officers will be continuing to provide reassurance in the local area.

"If anyone has any information regarding suspicious behaviour on 18 March or in the days leading up to last Wednesday, details can be submitted via the Major Incident Public Portal or via 101 quoting log 4888 of 18 March."
