Arrest made after van hits two pensioners in Melksham

The two women in their 70's are in hospital in potentially life-threatening conditions.

A man has been arrested following a serious collision in Melksham yesterday afternoon (27/09) in which two women suffered potentially life-threatening injuries.

At around 1.30pm yesterday, in Lowbourne, a white Ford Transit van which was reversing has collided with two female pedestrians in their 70s.

The two women were taken to hospital, where they remain in potentially life-threatening conditions.

A 25-year-old man from Melksham has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving.

He has been bailed while officers await evidential samples and to allow further enquiries to be carried out.

Sergeant James Twyford from the Roads Policing Unit said: “This was a serious incident which has resulted in two elderly women suffering potentially life-threatening injuries.

“We have already spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene and we would like to thank the public for their support with this investigation.
