A 13 year old boy has been arrested after another teenager died in a collision in Pontefract.

Police were called to Eastbourne Terrace yesterday evening.

A 16 year old died at the scene.

West Yorkshire Police have referred themselves to the IOPC over the incident - saying they had contact with the bike before the collision.

A police statement said:

"Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic incident in Pontefract.

"Officers attended at a ginnel at the rear of Eastbourne Terrace in Pontefract at just after 5.05pm on Monday 13 July to an incident at which a teenage male had come off a motorbike.

"The 16-year-old boy was provided with medical treatment by police and paramedics but sadly died at the scene.

"Following enquiries officers later located a second teenage boy, aged 13, suspected to have been on the bike at the time of the collision. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

"Due to prior police contact with the bike before the collision, a mandatory referral has been made to the IOPC."
