Last updated 23 hours ago
With the season four finale of Northern Irish police drama Blue Lights coming to an end on Tuesday 3rd November, many fans of the show were hoping for news of a renewal, but it seems the show's future is now in doubt.
Blue Lights co-creators Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, who have worked alongside Stephen Wright and Louise Gallagher since series one, have now announced they've stepped away from the show to focus on other projects.
Sharing the news on social media, Declan wrote: 'As Helen says in tonight’s finale: “In life change is inevitable. But there’s the kind we make and the kind we endure. And I like to think that between these walls we made more than we endured.” It has been a massive privilege to tell these stories, many of them drawn from real life people who shared their experiences with us. Thanks to them, to everyone who made the show, and to everyone who watched and supported Blue Lights over the last four years. End of shift! 🫡'. (sic)
Declan and Adam have also now shared a statement with Radio Times, which says: "We’ve decided to step away from Blue Lights to focus on other projects including our next BBC show D-Notice. Writing Blue Lights has been our greatest privilege, and it has changed our lives.
"We would like to thank everyone - the BBC, our co-creators Stephen Wright at Two Cities and Louise Gallagher at Gallagher Films, our incredible cast and crew - who have made writing Blue Lights such a special experience for us. Sharp eyes save lives."

Will Blue Lights be getting a fifth series?
Nothing has been confirmed by the BBC about any future series of Blue Lights at the time of publication, but a BBC spokesperson has now confirmed discussions are on going with co-creators Stephen Wright and Louise Gallagher.
The spokesperson said: "Following co-creators and writers Declan and Adam’s decision, we would like to thank them for four series of the multi award-winning drama which have captivated viewers from across the UK. We are taking a beat and talking to the producers about what’s next for Blue Lights."
Despite the uncertainty surrounding future series, fans will be hoping for more, following the ending to series four, which saw Grace Ellis (Siân Brooke) becoming a detective.
Fans have also been crying out for more online, with many commenting on Declan's Instagram post.
One wrote: 'Oh my goodness! I have absolutely adored this show, these characters and the stories you guys have brought to life. Sincerely hope this isn’t really the end of this fantastic drama, which IMHO has been one of the finest of this decade to grace our screens. Massive congrats to you and the entire cast and crew who’ve such a fantastic show. ❤️❤️❤️'. (sic)
Another commented: 'I'm devastated we might never see another new episode but incredibly grateful for the wonderful writing and spectacular cast. I've loved every moment. Thank you 👏🔥❤️', with somebody else adding: 'Devastating. When there is a global market and ratings and global sales for first class television, it is gone'. (sic)
