Production on Frozen 3 is officially thawing, with Olaf's Josh Gad sharing the latest update on social media on 3rd February 2026. In his Instagram post captioned: '3rd time is always the charm ☃️ Time to build another snowman. #frozen3', Josh can be seen back in Disney Animation's recording booth holding a plush Olaf, alongside writer‑director Jennifer Lee and the creative team.

The update reassures fans that Disney is pressing ahead toward the recently confirmed threequel - with the creative brain‑trust including co-director Trent Correy plus producer Christina Chen from the first two films - also back in action.

When was Frozen 3 first announced?

Disney CEO Bob Iger first announced that Frozen 3 was in development during the company’s Q1 earnings call in February 2023, confirming a new sequel was officially in the works.

At the time, Bob framed the decision as part of a broader strategy to lean into Disney’s most successful franchises, revealing new sequels for Frozen, Toy Story and Zootopia in the same breath.

The threequel’s theatrical plans were later clarified at Disney’s D23 showcase in August 2024, where the studio set a revised release date of 24th November 2027 after an earlier 2026 slot. The move aligned Frozen 3 with Disney’s preferred Thanksgiving window, mirroring the release pattern of both previous instalments.

Is there a Frozen 3 trailer?

No - a trailer for Frozen 3 has not yet been revealed.

What are Frozen and Frozen 2 about?

The original Frozen (2013) follows sisters Anna and Elsa in the kingdom of Arendelle, where Elsa’s ice powers accidentally plunge their home into eternal winter and force her into self‑imposed exile. Anna embarks on a journey to find her sister and save the kingdom, joined by ice seller Kristoff, his reindeer Sven and the magically animated snowman Olaf.

Frozen 2 (2019) shifts the focus to the origin of Elsa’s powers and the sisters’ family history, sending them into an enchanted forest and a distant glacier to uncover a long‑buried conflict involving Arendelle and the Northuldra people. The sequel leans more heavily into mythology and self‑discovery, exploring themes of change, responsibility and finding one’s place in the world.

You can watch a recap retold by Olaf below!

Who is cast in Frozen 3?

Disney has not announced the full ensemble, but key cast members from the first two films are already confirmed to return for Frozen 3. Idina Menzel will once again lend her voice to Queen Elsa, while Kristen Bell is set to reprise her role as Princess Anna.

Josh Gad is of course back as Olaf, with his recording‑booth photo effectively doubling as a soft confirmation that the fan‑favourite snowman remains central to the threequel.

Behind the scenes, Jennifer Lee returns as a director and writer, joined by co‑director Trent Correy and writer Marc Smith, while songwriters Kristen Anderson‑Lopez and Robert Lopez are also expected to be involved across the planned third and fourth films.

When is Frozen 3 coming out?

Frozen 3 is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on 24th November 2027, landing in Disney’s prime Thanksgiving weekend slot.

Is there a Frozen 4?

When the date was for the threequel was confirmed - following a reshuffle that pushed the film back from an initial 25th November 2026 window - it also set the already‑teased Frozen 4 for a follow‑up release in 2028.

What has Idina Menzel said about Frozen 3?

Speaking to This Morning's former co-hosts Holly Willoughby and Craig Doyle in July 2023 about the threequel announcement, the Broadway star said she was "very excited it is happening", but at the time hadn't seen a script.

When Idina was asked about where she would envision Elsa now - with Holly signalling a potential partner or lover - the actor clarified the unique bond that makes the film so special in the first place.

"What's always been so beautiful about Frozen, is that the relationship of sisterhood has been celebrated, and family, and it's not been about princess queen - damsel in distress finding her the prince coming in to save the day."

Before adding: "But I think in Frozen 3 it would be nice if she found a partner."

What has CEO Bob Iger said about Frozen 3?

Bob Iger used his 2023 earnings‑call announcement to underline Frozen’s importance to Disney’s slate, saying the company was leaning on “some of our most popular franchises” as it moved into a new phase.

His comments positioned Frozen 3 as both a creative continuation and a strategic play, tapping one of Disney Animation’s most bankable modern classic brands.

Frozen spin-offs

Disney Plus has quietly turned Frozen into a mini‑universe, with a handful of shorts and series that expand life in Arendelle between the main films. Most of the spin‑offs double down on Olaf, seasonal celebrations and side‑story adventures, making them easy, standalone watches for families.

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure is a Christmas special where Olaf and Sven go door‑to‑door collecting holiday traditions to help Anna and Elsa create their own family ritual.

Frozen Fever

Frozen Fever is a springtime short built around Anna’s birthday, with Elsa trying to throw the perfect party while battling a cold that causes tiny living “snowgies” to appear every time she sneezes.

Olaf Presents

Olaf Presents is a short‑form series where Olaf stages chaotic one‑snowman retellings of Disney classics like The Little Mermaid, Moana and The Lion King, playing almost every role himself for laughs.

Once Upon a Snowman

Once Upon a Snowman is a Disney Plus exclusive that shows Olaf’s 'missing minutes' during Let It Go, following his first moments of life as he stumbles through the mountains figuring out who he is and hunting for a carrot nose.

LEGO Frozen Northern Lights

LEGO Frozen Northern Lights, available as a special on the service, sends Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven on a quest to restore the fading Northern Lights, using brick‑built slapstick and meta‑humour to tell a lighter, non‑canon side story.

Frozen The Musical

Frozen the Musical brought Arendelle to the stage in 2018, expanding the film into a full‑scale Broadway and West End spectacle with new songs and large‑scale ice effects. The show opened at New York’s St James Theatre in March 2018 to mixed but generally respectful reviews, with critics praising the performances, designs and technical wizardry even as some felt the extra numbers and length dulled the impact.

The London production at Theatre Royal Drury Lane opened in August 2021 to warmer reviews, collecting seven WhatsOnStage Awards (more than any other show that year) and four Olivier nominations including Best New Musical before announcing its final performance for 8th September 2024 after a three-year run.

World of Frozen opens in Disneyland Paris 2026

12 years after Frozen took the world by icy storm, a dedicated, fully immersive World of Frozen land is set to open at Disney Adventure World (formerly Walt Disney Studios Park) in Disneyland Paris on 29th March 2026. The land, featuring a replica of Arendelle and a boat ride, was previously announced for a 2026 opening during the August 2024 D23 event.

World of Frozen is part of the newly reimagined Disney Adventure World, transforming a huge chunk of the resort into a life‑size Arendelle. The land recreates the Kingdom of Arendelle around a scenic lake, complete with the towering North Mountain crowned by Elsa’s Ice Palace, a waterfront village, and a bespoke in‑park festival called the Snowflower Festival that decorates the whole area for an in‑story celebration.

Awards for Frozen

Both Frozen and Frozen 2 rank among Disney’s biggest animated hits, with the first film grossing over 1.2 billion dollars worldwide and the sequel surpassing that total to become one of the highest‑grossing animated movies of all time.

Their box office success, combined with magical merchandising and streaming popularity, helped cement the franchise as a cornerstone of Disney’s modern brand.

Frozen collected major awards, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for Let It Go in 2014, while Frozen 2 added further accolades and record‑breaking soundtrack sales.

Those stats alone give Disney’s confidence in expanding Arendelle’s story across a third and fourth film, with Frozen 3 now officially in production and Frozen 4 already on the horizon!
