Campaign to support York businesses during conservation works
Shope on High Petergate say they are being impacted by the work on Bootham Bar
York BID has launched a new initiative to help High Petergate businesses thrive during the ongoing Bootham Bar conservation works.
The ‘Support York’ campaign, running until December, is aimed at encouraging residents and visitors to shop with local traders from 1–32 High Petergate — including The Little Apple Bookshop, The Fat Badger, and 22 Yards Wine Bar.
Customers can take part in a monthly £50 York Gift Card prize draw by spending £10 or more in a participating business, sending a photo of their receipt to [email protected], and waiting to see if they win. The first draw opens on Tuesday 5 August.
The campaign, funded by City of York Council and delivered by York BID, follows the success of February’s ‘Shop York’ initiative. As part of the project, new information towers have been installed to guide visitors to High Petergate, which remains open for business throughout the works.
Carl Alsop, York BID Operations Manager, said:
“We’re really excited to launch Support York to encourage people to use the high street throughout the High Petergate conservation works. It’s a win-win — support your favourite local business and you could win £50 to spend across the city!”
Philippa Morris, owner of The Little Apple Bookshop, added:
“We are so pleased to have York BID help us celebrate High Petergate and support us through a tricky time. Bootham Bar really is the gateway to the city and whilst our gateway is being repaired, it’s lovely to remind people of all the unique shops and businesses we have.”
