£29m Selby Station regeneration work begins next month
The Selby Station Gateway scheme will see unused buildings knocked down
A major project to transform the area around Selby railway station is set to get underway in October.
The £29million Selby Station Gateway scheme will see unused buildings knocked down, including the former railway social club and empty business units, to make way for better access and new facilities.
Plans include extra parking, a new entrance on Cowie Drive, and upgraded walking and cycling routes along Station Road and Ousegate.
The project will also create a new Station Plaza to link the railway station with Selby Park.
“safe and welcoming environment”
Councillor Malcolm Taylor from North Yorkshire Council said it would deliver a “safe and welcoming environment” for people arriving in the town, improve air quality, and help attract fresh investment.
Work will be carried out in phases by national contractor Galliford Try, with completion expected in autumn 2028.
The funding comes from the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities programme, which has allocated thirty eight million pounds for projects in Harrogate, Selby and Skipton, overseen by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority with support from regional partners.
