Man jailed for stab threats after being caught in Scarborough garden shed
Scott Watson has been jailed for two years
A man has been jailed for two years for threatening someone with a knife after entering their shed in Scarborough.
Police were called to Eden Drive at around 1.50am on 6 December 2025 after two people were spotted going inside someone's garden shed without permission.
The homeowner heard barking dogs and saw the pair in the garden.
Her husband went outside to confront the intruders when the man threatened to stab him with a knife he had.
The pair also damaged a parked car on their driveway, hitting and scratching the back passenger door.
Police quickly identified and arrested 37-year-old Scott Watson and 30-year-old Lauren Shimells, both of no fixed address.
The pair originally faced aggravated burglary charges, but these were reduced.
Watson admitted possession of a bladed article and criminal damage, while Shimells pleaded guilty to criminal damage.
Watson has now jailed for two years. He already had three previous convictions for knife-related crimes, taking the total up to four.
Shimells was sentenced to 28 days in jail but released due to the time she already served on remand.
Both were also given five-year restraining orders against the victims.
Detective Constable Sam Rivers from Scarborough CID said knife crime “will not be tolerated” and said Watson’s previous knife-related convictions were an aggravating factor in the case.
