The community football pitch at Scarborough Sports Village is undergoing final repairs, with the installation of a new playing surface expected to finish by 26th June 2026.

North Yorkshire Council has been leading a comprehensive repair effort to secure the long-term future of the pitch, which serves both Scarborough Athletic Football Club and Scarborough Ladies Football Club.

Structural work has been completed by construction company Willmott Dixon, setting the stage for the new surface to be laid.

Football games are slated to resume at Scarborough Sports Village in time for the 2026/27 season in August.

North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for leisure, Cllr Simon Myers, expressed confidence in the project, saying that high standards and swift completion were priorities to minimise impact on clubs who rely on the pitch.

Willmott Dixon director Chris Yates also confirmed that the final phase of work is advancing smoothly, underscoring the facility's significance to the local community.

Repairs became necessary after a survey last year revealed crucial issues with the 3G pitch, leading to its unavailability for the 2025/26 season.

Scarborough Athletic temporarily relocated to Bridlington Town's ground for home fixtures during the pitch's closure.

The club has announced that play will return to Scarborough Sports Village for a pre-season friendly against Barnsley on 25th July 2026, with a 1pm kick-off.
