Two rough sleepers hospitalised after 'irritant' thrown at them in Scarborough

A man and a woman who were sleeping rough in Scarborough have been taken to hospital after someone reportedly threw what is believed to be an irritant at them.

Officers say the attack happened at around 2.30am on Wednesday (15 July) in the Ramshill Road area.

The pair were left with facial injuries which are not believed to be serious, and were taken to hospital.

A woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

Officers are also trying to trace other suspects believed to have been involved.

Police officers, firefighters and ambulance crews attended the scene after the initial report.

Parts of Ramshill Road and Northway were cordoned off at the time.
