Line up for Scarborough Armed Forces Day
Military pageantry to honour service personnel and their families
Scarborough is preparing to honour the Armed Forces community with a day of spectacular air displays, military presentations, and family-friendly activities today (Saturday, 27th June).
Hosted by North Yorkshire Council as part of their commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, the event will run from 11am to 5pm, featuring a range of attractions from aerial performances to marching bands.
11.30am: RAF Chinook will be doing a flypast to kick off Scarborough Armed Forces Day. The Chinook is one of the RAF’s most recognisable aircraft, capable of carrying up to 55 troops or heavy cargo loads.
11.40am: RAF Tutor T Mark 1. This aircraft will take to the skies with a precision display.
1.30pm: Hawker Fury. A descendant of the legendary Sea Fury brings a powerful mid afternoon display.
2.30pm: Calidus AutoGyro. An agile gyroplane promises a fascinating display.
3.30pm: RAF Supermarine Spitfire. One of Britain’s most iconic aircraft returns to Scarborough’s skies.
4.05pm: RAF Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4. The day’s headline display will be ready to captivate audiences with the raw power, speed and agility of the frontline fighter.
Cllr Carl Les, leader of North Yorkshire Council, emphasised the event's importance: "Scarborough Armed Forces Day is a powerful demonstration of unity, pride, and community spirit. It is a time to thank and celebrate all who serve or have served."
The day will open with the RAF Chinook flypast at 11.30am, followed by performances from iconic aircraft like the RAF Eurofighter Typhoon and the Supermarine Spitfire.
On the ground, traditional marches, band displays, and presentations will animate the resort, with performances from veterans and cadets, including the Chelsea Pensioners display.
Cllr Kevin Foster, Armed Forces champion for North Yorkshire Council, expressed his enthusiasm for the event: "Armed Forces Day is a highlight for Scarborough, offering residents and visitors an opportunity to appreciate those who serve, from personnel to families."
