Protest to be held at North Yorkshire dairy farm
It follows an undercover investigation that seemingly showed cows being beaten
Animal rights activists are holding a protest outside a North Yorkshire dairy farm today.
It after an undercover investigation by the Animal Justice Project at Lowfields farm in Northallerton seemingly showed cows being kicked and beaten.
Sean Barrs is from the group and says they are also trying to raise awareness: "We're going to start by educating the locals in the village of Brompton, by door dropping letters highlighting the findings of our investigations. So we really welcome friendly conversation on the day from anyone who sees our action."
"Once we've distributed these leaflets round the village we're going to march up the farm together. We've got banners and placards and when we're at the farm we're going to hold a minutes silence for the cows who lost their lives during our investigation."
We have attempted to contact the farm for comment.
In a statement diary processor Arla said: “Animal welfare is of the utmost importance and we take a zero-tolerance approach. We take any matters relating to this extremely seriously. The actions that are shown in the footage are completely unacceptable and do not meet the high standards that we expect from our farmers. The individuals in the video are no longer employed at the farm.”
