We're hearing from Ukrainians living in North Yorkshire on the third anniversary of Russia's full scale invasion.

Iryna Kutsemakhina escaped with her young daughter to Scarborough.

"Five of my students have been killed, I knew them as small guys, because I used to be a teacher and they were my students, they defended my country and they gave their lives for this."

She also explains that her parents are still in Ukraine: "They are not too far from the front line, it's just 5km from them, and they were advised to leave but they are not going to do, they are trying to support all the soldiers who are staying in their house as well."

"I can't even imagine how it is in Ukraine, with permanent explosions everyday nearly and how people and children mainly, are in shelters."

"Definitely all people still hope for some, I can't even say victory, because it's a victory in blood of civilian blood, in blood of kids."

"We all have relatives and friends in Ukraine, every second you are thinking about it, every morning when you wake up, all of us we take our phones and we start our days by checking the news."

The anniversary comes as the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster said that whatever developments occur in the Ukraine war, Russia must not feel "emboldened".

Pat McFadden said it is clear Europe must "do more" to contribute to its own defence and the UK must play a leading role in the change.

The Prime Minister has recently suggested UK troops could be part of a European "reassurance force" deployed to Ukraine following the end of the war.

But he is also seeking a US "backstop" to any peace agreement and this is expected to be part of his discussions with Donald Trump in Washington.

The visit will come amid a growing rift between the US President and Ukraine'sVolodymyr Zelensky, as well as signals from the Trump administration that is sees Europe as less of a security priority.
