Free learning sessions for North Yorkshire’s Safeguarding Week
Public and professionals invited to address abuse prevention
To mark this year’s Safeguarding Week a series of free online and face-to-face sessions aimed at protecting children and adults from abuse or neglect is being offered to the public.
Organised by partners including Safeguarding Adults Boards, Children’s Safeguarding Partnerships, and local councils, the events emphasise the theme, “safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.”
Cllr Janet Sanderson, North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for children and families, highlighted the significance of the programme, stating, “The sessions are designed to educate people to recognise signs of abuse and report concerns, fostering discussion and sharing best practices.”
Offering more than 60 sessions, the programme includes topics such as rough sleeping, autism, ADHD, domestic abuse, and modern slavery, catering to both professional and public audiences.
The events are accessible virtually and in person to accommodate different schedules, with motivational speakers leading the sessions.
Throughout the week, community safety officers from North Yorkshire Council, accompanied by North Yorkshire Police colleagues, will appear at various locations to raise awareness.
