North Yorkshire Police arrest more than 100 as part of new operation
Project Titan was set up to address concern of an influx in county line dealers in the city
Police Officers in York have made more than 100 arrests following the introduction of a new tasking team. Launched in December 2024, Project Titan was implemented to address the growing concern of an influx in county line dealers in the city. The term 'County lines' is used to describe networks of gangs and organised crime groups, who use children, young people and vulnerable adults to carry out illegal activity on their behalf.
Project Titan has brought together various resources from across North Yorkshire Police. Since its launch officers have identified several children and young people who have travelled into the city via public transport and taxis to deal drugs. In just three months, the dedicated Titan team has made 113 arrests – most of these arrests were for multiple offences:
From the 113 arrests:
• 29 x charges
• 12 x charge and remands
• 74 live investigations on going
Specialist intelligence officers utilise police systems and carry out surveillance work to ensure that the proactive resource is in the right areas at the right times. Ready to strike with a moment’s notice the proactive team operate in plain clothes and uniform working around the clock in locations that are being hit hard for dealing.
Project Titan’s lead, DCI Shaun Page from North Yorkshire Police said: “ 113 arrests in four months is extremely positive, but there are still suspected drugs lines operating across York.
“Using a significant number of investigative strategies the team has worked relentlessly to tackle drug use, drug related crime and criminal exploitation.
“Our commitment continues, working in close partnership with other agencies, including the City of York Council, ensures a holistic, preventative approach, reducing harm to our communities.
“However, I must stress the importance of having the public on our side. Please remain vigilant, if there is something that doesn’t look quite right, it probably isn’t. If you have concerns about drug supply or county lines operating in your area or feel like you have witnessed something suspicious, please do get in touch with us. You can report information to the police on 101, or via our website”.
