North Yorkshire artist helps over 1,000 trees be planted
It's after the felling of the Sycamore Gap tree last year.
A North Yorkshire artist has helped plant over a thousand trees - after being inspired by the Sycamore Gap tree.
The famous landmark in Northumberland was illegally felled last year - with two men currently awaiting trial.
But Lucy Pittaway from Richmond set about trying to make a difference - by pledging to plant a new tree for every print of the Sycamore that she sold.
The trees have been planted on the Swinton Estate near Masham.
Lucy said:
“To see this new woodland and the trail coming to life is wonderful. It was incredibly important to me that what we are creating here at the beautiful Swinton Estate should be a lasting and fitting memorial to the felled Sycamore Gap tree.
"With the planting of 1000 trees as well as the installation of these initial pieces of art, that is certainly the case. And while planting may be completed, our journey here is only just beginning.
“As the seasons change, the trees will continue to grow and I’m excited that we will continue to add sculptures and other elements to the trail over the coming months."
