Inquest into death of North Yorkshire Police Officer opened and suspended

UPDATE:

An inquest into the death of an off-duty officer and a motorist on the A19 in North Yorkshire has been opened and suspended.

PC Rosie Prior was killed by a lorry after stopping to help at the scene of a minor collision involving Ryan Welford - he was also fatally struck.

A coroner in Northallerton ruled the cause of death for both was blunt head injuries.

The inquest has been paused as police continue their investigation.


An inquest is opening today into the death of a North Yorkshire police officer.

PC Rosie Prior was killed earlier this month on the A19 at Bagby - along with Ryan Welford from Knaresborough - after they were hit by a lorry.

She'd stopped to help at a collision Mr Welford was involved in.

The lorry was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving - and was released under investigation.
