The husband of Lamduan Armitage - whose body was found near Pen-y-ghent in the Yorkshire Dales in 2004 but not identified for 15 years - has been arrested in Thailand.

North Yorkshire Police repeatedly tried to speak to David Armitage about his wife's death, but have been unable to do so.

Now Mr Armitage has been detained over an immigration issue and could be deported. That may see him return to the UK, when detectives say they would be hoping to speak to him.

Lamduan's body was found, part-naked, in a stream by walkers climbing Pen-y-ghent in 2004, but it took 15 years for her to be identified.

The mystery over who she was saw her referred to, for many years, as the Lady of the Hills.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "We are aware of the detention in Thailand of David Armitage, the husband of Lamduan Armitage. We understand it relates to his visa status and residence in Thailand and is entirely a matter for the Immigration Service of the Royal Thai Police.

"Should Mr Armitage be deported, we understand that he will have a choice as to where he goes, which will include return to the UK. Should that occur, we will again make every effort to speak to him about the investigation."
