Farmers offered free health checks at the Great Yorkshire Show
It's part of a renewed focus on physical health
Being "fit to farm" is one of the major themes of this years Great Yorkshire Show. .
Rachel Coates, farmer and Show Director of the Great Yorkshire Show, said: “Farming is round the clock with lots of competing duties so it can be easy to neglect your own wellbeing. I hope that the focus on mental and physical health at the Show is a useful reminder to take the time to look after ourselves and one another.”
Farmers can visit the Field Nurse trailer near Brown Gate on any day of the Show to get a free health check and to find out about its Farming Stronger for Longer Campaign which promotes daily strength and conditioning exercises for farmers to replicate at home.
A recent report by Healthwatch suggested some farmers are more likely to ask their vet for advice rather than book a GP appointment.
Linzi is a nurse who works for the field nurse charity and says she's not surprised: "I've known it as well that they will ask for treatments from vets, so if they have injured themselves they will ask some vets to use antiseptic."
"A lot of it is that they don't have time but they also don't have trust. They don't want to be poorly, they don't want to be ill they don't want chronic disease but my side of things if they don't counteract these problems they are going to end up more chronically ill in the future."
