Filey Kite Festival returns with a new Friday night flight spectacular
Extended event promises dazzling displays
The much-loved Filey Kite Festival is set to return for its sixth year later, featuring a new Friday night flight to delight visitors on the Yorkshire coast.
The festival will run from 18th September to 20th September at the Filey Brigg Country Park, offering colourful kite displays and exciting activities.
Organised by North Yorkshire Council and the Northern Kite Group, the free event will include a first-time evening showcase on Friday, where illuminated kites will create a stunning display against the dusk skyline.
Visitors can look forward to an array of kite spectacles, including giant inflatables, precision stunt kites and artistic creations.
A "learn to fly arena" will be available, allowing visitors of all ages to experience kite flying, with kites provided and expert guidance on hand.
North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for culture, arts and housing, Cllr Simon Myers, said: “This promises to be a fantastic event with the skies above Filey Brigg filled with amazing kites.
“Families will have plenty of opportunities to get involved and children can take part in kite-making workshops, where they can create and decorate their own kites before taking them outside to see them fly.
“Filey Brigg Country Park is a fantastic venue for a kite festival. Its wide-open spaces and coastal breeze create perfect flying conditions, allowing us to showcase an incredible variety of kites.”
