Top riders from across the UK will descend on Dalby Forest this weekend as the British Gravel Championships take place in North Yorkshire.

The event will see elite, junior and masters racers compete in a challenging mix of gravel races and time trials—designed to test endurance, skill and perseverance.

Among the competitors is Olympic triathlete Jonathan Brownlee, who returns to the forest where he once rode for fun on his stag do.

“Racing at home always feels more special – the crowd and support in Yorkshire is incredible,” he said. “Gravel racing is honest and pure – and Dalby’s trails are the perfect setting.”

Cllr Mark Crane, North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for the visitor economy, said the championships offer a huge boost to local businesses:

“Events like this put the spotlight on North Yorkshire and encourage people to experience what the region has to offer.”

Local rider Harry Tanfield, from Great Ayton, will also be competing. While he’s still gaining experience off-road, he said he’s excited to be racing close to home:

“It’s about learning how to handle the bike over different surfaces and read the terrain. But beyond the racing, the atmosphere is brilliant—it really feels like a festival.”
