Three people, including a 15-year-old boy, have been arrested on the A1(M) following the theft of fragrances from Boots in Ripon city centre.

The store on Market Square reported the theft at 3.40pm yesterday (Wednesday 28th January 2026), saying two men had stolen several perfumes.

CCTV operators tracked two suspects matching the descriptions running across the road and entering a vehicle.

Police quickly circulated the car’s registration, allowing officers to monitor its movements.

Specialist units deployed to the southbound section of the A1(M), where they stopped the vehicle safely at Junction 47 (Allerton Park) at around 4pm.

Two men aged 18 and 24 and a 15-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of shop theft and taken into custody.

Police say their rapid response highlights the work being done to tackle crimes against businesses in the county.
