An 81-year-old man has died following a single vehicle collision in the Selby area.

Police were called out around 3.30pm on Tuesday 29th July on the A19 at Chapel Haddesley.

The collision involved a silver Jaguar car with one person inside - sadly the 81-year-old driver passed away shortly after arriving at hospital via ambulance.

His next of kin is being supported.

The scene was closed to traffic with diversions to allow the emergency services to work safely. The road reopened just before 10pm.

North Yorkshire Police said:

"Thank you to the public who stopped to try and help the driver, and for all who came forward as witnesses."
