It happened earlier today at Crambeck - with police on the scene.
Drivers are being warning of heavy congestion around the area.
Local diversions are in place - with eastbound traffic being sent off the A64 at Greets House Road and westbound traffic diverted at the A169 junction at Malton.
However, National Highways is advising drivers to delay journeys or seek alternative routes away from the area.
