York Valkyrie win Women's Super League Grand Final
Valkyrie become the first side to win the title three times
York Valkyrie have been crowned champions of the 2026 Betfred Women's Super League after beating Wigan Warriors at The Brick Community Stadium.
The victory means Valkyrie have become the first side to win the Betfred Women's Super League Grand Final three times.
York secured the win with a strong defensive display that kept the Warriors from finding a way through in the closing stages.
How the game unfolded
York took the lead in the ninth minute when Sinead Peach broke through the Wigan defence and twisted her way over the line.
Wigan responded in the 18th minute after Jenna Foubister made a break, with Mia-Jayne Atherton finishing the move to score.
York regained the lead after a dangerous tackle on Jas Bell by Atherton led to a penalty, which Ellie Williamson converted to put Valkyrie two points clear.
Valkyrie continued to press before half-time, with Amelie Lenham coming close to scoring and Liv Wood stopped just short of the line.
Wigan dominated much of the second half, attacking York's defence for long periods, but Valkyrie held firm to seal victory at 8-6.
Player of the Match
Amelie Lenham was named Player of the Match after an outstanding defensive performance that included several important tackles throughout the game.
Woman of Steel award
The result marks the end of the 2026 Betfred Women's Super League season.
Wigan's Jenna Foubister, Eva Hunter and Megan Williams are all in the running for the 2026 Woman of Steel Award.
The award will be announced at the Rugby League Awards night in Manchester on Tuesday 29th September.
