New SEND hub officially opens in York
It will be the flagship Family Hub for young people with SEND aged 0-25 years and their families

A new support hub for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities is officially opening in York today.
SEND Central, based at the Clifton Family Hub, will give families advice, information, and access to extra support all in one place.
It has been named SEND CENTRAL — following a city-wide competition earlier this year.
The winning title was suggested by Kaden, who took part in the naming challenge for the hub.
Kaden explained: “I chose SEND CENTRAL because it was a centre to everything SEND and also it sounded good because of the similar sounds of the two words ‘SEND & CEN’. Dad liked The SEND Den, but I thought SEND CENTRAL sounded better.”
The hub will serve young people with SEND aged 0–25 years, along with their families. Visitors will be able to drop in for guidance, find out more about York’s Local Offer, or be signposted to further support — regardless of whether a child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
SEND CENTRAL will work closely with local health partners and forms a key part of City of York Council’s SEND provision.
Cllr Bob Webb, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education, said:
“Supporting all children, young people and their families is a priority for us and the new SEND Hub is so important for York. I’m delighted that its new name – SEND CENTRAL – reflects just how central it will be to young people with SEND and their families, providing a single location for information and advice, whatever the query.”
