A building planned at York Hospital would face directly into a neighbour’s home, its occupant has claimed.

Plans lodged with City of York Council would see a 40sqm electrical switch room built at the hospital’s Wigginton Road site.

Its application stated the building was designed to be secure, unobtrusive and to blend in with the rest of the hospital estate.

But a resident living in Feversham Crescent said it would be built directly facing the windows at the back of their house.

Plans lodged with the council would see the 3m-tall switch room built next to an 8m-tall boiler room at the northern end of the hospital estate.

The application stated it would be constructed using a brick finish to help it blend in with the rest of the hospital.

Plans stated: “The proposed facility is a critical infrastructure upgrade

designed to house essential High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) switchboards.

“The proposal consists of a single storey, 40sqm footprint dedicated entirely to utility infrastructure, directly supporting the hospital’s operational resilience.”

But the neighbour said the building should be screened to obscure it from view.

Their objection stated: “I object to the construction of a permanent building directly facing my property, all windows on the back of my house face straight onto this, unless full screening is provided by way of planting of trees or other natural screening to block the view.”
