Three York schools are set to get extra breakfast and after school club places after a £51,000 cash injection.

A City of York Council decision record stated grants would be awarded to clubs at primary schools in Clifton, Dringhouses and Wheldrake to expand the number of ‘wraparound’ places in the city.

The £51,000 of Government money awarded in York following an application process which ran from October to December including £30,000 for 35 breakfast and after school club places at Clifton Green Primary School.

An extra 25 after school club places are set to be created at Dringhouses Primary School with £15,000.

And eight breakfast and after school club places at Wheldrake with Thorganby Primary School, which will be funded with £6,000.

The council document stated the funding would help to deliver on an ambitious programme of increasing places as part of national childcare reforms.

It come after most working families with children aged between nine months and five years old became eligbile for 30 hours of early education and care a week in September.

The Government gave the council £333,600 from its 2023-4 Childcare Capital Expansion grant fund to help increase physical capacity in schools where demand was expected to outstrip supply.

Department for Education funding worth £579,200 has also been awarded to make sure families who need it can get childcare between 8am and 6pm.
