It will now include Heworth

A review of car parking charges in Bishopthorpe Road, Micklegate and The Groves has been expanded, to include Heworth.

It's after receipt of a challenge from local traders and residents in the East Parade area about last year’s price increase. The entire consultation, including all four areas, will now run until 27 February 2026.

Arup, a global firm of designers, engineers, and consultants, who are already conducting an independent review on behalf of the Council in the three other areas, will now also be asking people in Heworth to have their say on local parking charges as part of the consultation.

Executive Member for Transport, Councillor Kate Ravilious, said: “This extended deadline gives residents and businesses more time to respond.

“Every effort is being made to publicise this review to local people with posters and paper copies of surveys being delivered to local shops, community venues and libraries.

“I would encourage everyone affected by this issue to respond to the consultation and have their say on parking charges in these areas.”

People can respond to the consultation online

Paper and easy read copies of the survey are available at York Explore, Bishopthorpe, Clifton, Dringhouses, and Tang Hall libraries; as well as in local shops and community centres across the four areas. Completed paper copies of the survey can be handed in at these libraries.

On completion of the consultation, the Council will publish the independent review and details of when it will be considered. The outcome of the decision will be published via the council website.
