Two retired North Yorkshire fire engines donated to Ukraine
The decommissioned vehicles will continue serving communities in Ukraine
Two decommissioned fire engines from North Yorkshire are being sent to support Ukraine.
The Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith, has approved the donation.
The vehicles have reached the end of their operational life in North Yorkshire but remain fully functional, and will be able to support communities there.
They'll be transported to Ukraine via Poland with support from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service volunteer drivers.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have previously donated breathing apparatus equipment to Ukraine in 2025, and another fire engine in 2023.
David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire said:
"These fire engines have served our communities well and now they can go on to serve the brave people of Ukraine.
"Our emergency services consistently step up, and I'm proud of the volunteers who are giving up their time to drive these vehicles across Europe."
The initiative is being run by the charity FIRE AID, which supports fire and rescue services across the world.
The charity has helped deliver more than 100 fire and rescue vehicles to Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
