Suspected burglars arrested after two-hour countryside search near Richmond

Police traced suspects after collision with stone pillar

Two individuals are in custody following a report of a burglary at a property in Brompton-on-Swale, near Richmond, according to North Yorkshire Police.

On Monday, 24th August, police received information about a burglary in progress at around 8.30pm, with suspects seen leaving the area in a Vauxhall Insignia.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found damage to the property and commenced an immediate search of the area.

Soon after, a report emerged involving the Vauxhall colliding with a stone pillar near Middleton Tyas, leading to the suspects abandoning the car and escaping.

A large-scale search ensued, spanning nearly two hours and involving the assistance of a police dog, culminating in the arrest of the suspects shortly before 11pm.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possessing illegal drugs, while a woman in her 30s was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of a bladed article.

Both individuals remain in custody while further inquiries are conducted.
