A Scarborough man who repeatedly targeted a teenage boy has been jailed for 29 weeks for breaching a Sexual Risk Order.

Paul Davey, 57, appeared at Harrogate Magistrates' Court on 29th October.

The order prohibited him from contacting anyone under the age of 18.

He pleaded guilty to the breach, and also pleaded guilty to harassment without violence.

What police say happened

Police said Davey followed the boy over a period of several months.

They said he drove alongside the boy as he walked along the street and, on occasions, filmed him.

Police said he also slowed his car down so the boy had to walk past it, and approached him to quote bible verses.

They said Davey knew the routes the boy would take, and still found him after the boy changed his routes.

Officers found around 500 images of the boy on Davey's phone.

They also found a printed image of him stuck to a chair in Davey's bedroom.

Police said none of the images were of a sexual nature, but the Sexual Risk Order specifically prevented Davey from contacting anyone under 18, directly or indirectly.

Police response

Detective Constable Jack McCabe, of Scarborough CID, was the investigating officer.

DC McCabe said: "No one should have to live in fear because of another person's behaviour. The victim was frightened and distressed by Davey's actions, which affected his day-to-day life."

He said: "Davey not only caused considerable emotional harm but also wilfully breached the court order that was in place to protect children."

He said: "The court's decision to impose a prison sentence reflects the seriousness of those breaches."

He said: "Our thoughts remain with the victim, and I hope this result helps him move forward with the knowledge that Davey has been held responsible for the harm he caused."
